Richmond is built on low-lying land protected by a dyke system. That's well managed, but it's still worth understanding a property's elevation, drainage and insurance coverage — including whether flood or overland-water coverage is available and what it costs. Those questions take five minutes before you buy, and they're far harder to answer afterward.
